GUWAHATI: Tension is running high in Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh following clashes between police and anti-dam protectors. Two persons were killed and over 10 injured in the police firing.

Casulty is expected to increase further. Tawang is site of Buddhist culture and government is fearing that Tawang fiasco might spread across the state.

A senior police offical said that anti-dam protestors gheraoed the Tawang police station demanding release of President of Save Mon Region Federation, Lama Lobsang Gyatso. He was arrested following protests over mega dams at Tawang.

The officer said that protesters were agitated over his arrest. "Police had to fire to quell the mob in which some casulty took place."

Anti-dam protest in the state is continuing for some time now.

National executive member of BJP and state unit president, Tapir Gao told ET, "We have taken up the matter with home commissioner and requested him to rush more paramilitary force in the area and ensure that crisis of Tawang does not affect other parts of the state."

He added, "We have sought flag march of army in the area."
