Two Indian workers were among three killed and 21 injured in a collision between two trucks in Bahrain.


DUBAI: Two Indian workers were among three killed and 21 injured in a collision between two trucks in Bahrain.

Shankar Kammari, 33, and Sukumaran Odupura, 35, were killed when the six-wheel pick-up in which the workers were travelling collided with a trailer lorry carrying heavy building materials on Sunday.

The accident occurred as the trailer was overtaking a minibus on a road at around 6 AM, police said.

The third victim was identified as 28-year-old Mehboob Siddique, a Bangladeshi.

Ten of the injured with non-life-threatening injuries were still in BDF Hospital.

Two Indians- Gyaradi Gangadhar, 36 and Mohammed Idris Mohammed, 31, were transferred to the Salmaniya Medical Complex. Idris was discharged later after surgeons set his fractured leg. Gangadhar suffered fractures in both sides of his pelvis.

It is illegal to transport people in open vehicles and law violators will be punished, said a traffic official, Police and welfare workers have condemned companies that transport workers illegally in the back of open trucks and the accident sparked outrage from activists.
