Two held for circulating fake currency notes

Gopalpuram police on Saturday arrested two persons for circulating fake currency notes in Hyderabad and seized Rs 2 lakh counterfeit notes from their possession which was allegedly supplied through a Bangladeshi.

HYDERABAD: Gopalpuram police on Saturday arrested two persons on charge of circulating fake currency notes in the city and seized Rs 2 lakh counterfeit notes from their possession which was allegedly supplied through a Bangladeshi.

Based on a credible information, police raided a lodge in Secunderabad this evening and apprehended Barjahan and Tarik-ul-Islam residents of Nadupul village in West Bengal, Inspector of Police Gopalpuram P V Muralidhar said.

The duo got the fake currency notes in denomination of Rs 1,000 from one B Sheikh belonging to Nadpul and were in the city to exchange these counterfeit currency, he said.

On preliminary investigations, it has been found that one Bangladeshi A Rahman handed over the fake currency notes to Sheikh who in turn was giving such notes for circulation across the country, he said.

During interrogation they revealed that the fake currency was supplied from Pakistan, the police official said.

Further investigations are on, he said.
