Two arrested for running betting racket on IPL

Two persons were arrested today for allegedly running a betting racket in Mandsaur district here on the ongoing IPL T-20 cricket matches in South Africa, police said.

BHOPAL: Two persons were arrested today for allegedly running a betting racket in Mandsaur district here on the ongoing IPL T-20 cricket matches in South Africa, police said.

The accused were identified as Mangal Somani and Pikesh Jain, who used to accept bets via phone and mobiles and the money transaction was done afterwards, they said.

Mandsaur Superintendent of Police D P Gupta received a tip off about the racket being run from a shop near the bus stand, following which the place was raided and the equipment used in the illegal business were seized, they said.

Police suspect that the Mandsaur betting racket had connection with Indore - the district considered to be the business capital of Madhya Pradesh, police said.

The duo have been booked under relevant sections of Gambling Act, police added.
