Two arrested for posing as Gavit

The CBI has arrested two persons for allegedly posing as Union minister of state Manik Rao Gavit and his personal aide in a telephone conversation with a jailed criminal. CBI arrested Vinod Kumar and Krishna Kumar, who are both are real estate agents from Rohini in North-West Delhi.

According to CBI, Krishna Kumar allegedly posed as Mr Gavit during a telephone conversation with don Surinder Bhati, lodged in Bulandshahar jail in Uttar Pradesh.

Vinod Kumar is said to have pretended to be the secretary to the minister. The conversation was aired by a TV channel, which led the government to set up a CBI investigation when Parliament was in session.

After the case was instituted, the CBI investigation revealed that the voice in the tape did not match that of Mr Gavit. Both voice samples were sent to the Central Forensic Science Lab and were found to be different.

The CBI now says that the two arrested men were in touch with the gangster, who helped them in their real estate business. The two were tracked through the number they were using to call the jailed criminal. Now the CBI will also investigate the conspiracy behind the tapes and how the tapes reached the television channel which aired them on August 13.

Krishna Kumar was taken into custody by the Delhi police on Friday. The Delhi police informed the CBI that it had arrested a man who was posing as the minister.

The CBI subsequently asked for his custody in a Karkardooma court, which granted seven days custody to the CBI. Kumar’s custodial interrogation had then led to the arrest of Vinod Kumar, who will be produced in court on Tuesday.
