Twitterati express anger with hike in LPG rates
The Modi government’s move to hike non-subsidised liquefied petroleum prices on Wednesday received strong reactions from Twitterati, who called for an immediate rollback.

Users expressed their anger over the LPG price hike of Rs 21, the second such move in a month, which the government attributed to a pick-up in international oil prices.

International crude prices have rebounded from a low of $25 per barrel in mid-January to $50 per barrel on May 30.

The World Bank, in April, raised its 2016 forecast for crude oil prices to $41 per barrel from $37 per barrel. According to a median of 17 analysts estimates compiled by Bloomberg this year, oil prices are expected to climb more than $15 by the end of 2016.

The revision means a non-subsidised domestic LPG cylinder in Delhi will cost Rs 548.50 compared with Rs 527.50 earlier. Subsidised LPG costs Rs 419.18 per cylinder in Delhi.

Consumers buy non-subsidised LPG cylinders once they exhaust their quota of 12 cylinders.
