TV Channel MD, 15 others booked for threatening government official

Cases were registered under various IPC sections including 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty).

SALEM: Fifteen persons, including the Managing Director of a Tamil television channel, were today booked for allegedly threatening an official of the state- owned Arasu Cable TV corporation here, police said.

The Managing Director of Polimer TV, M Kalyanasundaram, and 14 others had entered the office of Arasu Cable TV Deputy Director, Khazamoideen, located in the Collectorate premises, and allegedly threatened him, Inspector Kumaresan said.

Cases were registered under various IPC sections including 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), he said.

The Inspector said the incident was a fall out of a quarrel between cable TV operators and the channel over distribution of programmes. Some cable TV representatives had entered the channel's office yesterday and quarrelled with the MD, Kumaresan said.

Local cable TV operators today protested in front of the Collectorate demanding action against the TV channel.
