As the party announced various city presidents on Monday, Rajkot Congress city unit president Indranil Rajyaguru announced his resignation from the party, as did Nirav Bakshi from Ahmedabad, who was said to be expecting presidentship of the party’s city unit.
By Tuesday morning, 17 municipal corporations from Rajkot had come out in support of Rajyaguru, threatening to quit the party unless Rajyaguru was brought back in the party and his demands met.
Bakshi’s supporters stormed into Congress state headquarters in Ahmedabad and disrupted a press briefing of the party’s state president, Amit Chavda, who was trying to play down differences within the party.
Bakshi is a former city head of Youth Congress and son of Surendra Bakshi, a former Congress city president of Ahmedabad.
