New Delhi: The Vishva Hindu Parishad said the Ram temple is expected to be ready by 2024-25, and appealed to all Hindus to contribute at least Rs 11 per person for its construction.

On Wednesday, when the Centre notified a trust for overseeing the building of the temple, VHP said the trust would use the design of its 30-year-old model for building the temple. It also asked Hindus to publicly express their joy by being part of Ramotsav, a 14-day programme from March 25, by celebrating the festivals of Ram Navami and Hanuman Jayanti, in every village and district, and contributing at least Rs 44 per family for the temple.

This marked a shift from its earlier stance of asking people to show restraint over the verdict of the Supreme Court, which ruled in favour of the Hindu side and ordered that the disputed land in Ayodhya be handed over to build the Ram temple.

“VHP would make all arrangements if the trust is allowed for Hindus across the world to contribute to the cause. We are certain that the money for this should come from people, not the government,” said VHP’s working president Alok Kumar.

In the run-up to the construction, the idol of the deity, Ram Lalla, is expected to be shifted outside the premises for safekeeping for a few months. Architect Chandrakant Sompura was asked to prepare the design in 1989 by then VHP chief Ashok Singhal and it was circulated among devotees across the country.

The proposed Nagara architecture-style temple is a two-storey temple prototype with more than 200 pillars in five sections.
