Trucks claimed more lives than Blueline buses in Delhi

While the Blueline buses in the capital may have gained infamy due to their accident rate, trucks have in fact proved to be a bigger menace on Delhi roads, claiming many more lives.

NEW DELHI: While the Blueline buses in the capital may have gained infamy due to their accident rate, trucks have in fact proved to be a bigger menace on Delhi roads, claiming many more lives.

While accidents involving the private buses resulted in 163 deaths in 2007, trucks claimed 305 lives in the same period, according to statistics provided by Minister of State for Home Radhika V Selvi in Rajya Sabha today.

As many as 103 persons were seriously injured in accidents due to trucks, while 56 persons suffered serious injuries in Blueline accidents.

Accidents involving DTC buses resulted in 51 deaths and grievous injuries to 20 persons, as per the statistics.

As many as 1,652 people died in other accidents on Delhi roads, while 641 were seriously injured.
