TRS writes to PM on law and order control issue in Telangana

HYDERABAD: Seeking changes in the draft Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Bill passed by Union Cabinet, the TRS today urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to let law and order be in control of the proposed Telangana government. "Any government which has no control over law and order machinery in its capital area will lose respect in the eyes of public," TRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao said in a letter to the Prime Minister.

Among other demands, he sought setting up a separate High Court for Telangana against the proposal of common High Court for both successor states, enhancing the number of Rajya Sabha seats allotted to Telangana, dividing pensioners on the basis of their nativity, making outstanding public debt project-specific against the proposal of apportioning on the basis of population.

"Andhra employees working in Telangana region, in violation of Presidential Order, 1975 shall serve in residuary state of Andhra Pradesh. Telangana employees, presently working in Andhra region shall be permitted to opt for Telangana state, if they so desire," he said. Replying to a query, he expressed confidence that Telangana state would be a reality soon.

The no-confidence motion moved by some Seemandhra Congress MPs, TDP and YSRCP against UPA government is unlikely to be taken up, he said. He reiterated that the issue of merger of TRS with Congress could be discussed after the Telangana Bill is passed in both Houses of Parliament. He hit out at Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy who vowed to defeat the Telangana Bill in Legislative Assembly. "There will be no resolution. Only debate will take place (in Assembly)," he said.
