TRS rules out any truck with Cong, says it betrayed Telangana

TRS, which broke away from Third Front and switched over to NDA last week, on Friday ruled out any alliance with Congress accusing it of "betraying" the people of Telangana on separate statehood issue.

NEW DELHI: TRS, which broke away from Third Front and switched over to NDA last week, on Friday ruled out any alliance with Congress accusing it of "betraying" the people of Telangana on separate statehood issue.

"We are with NDA. We are not going anywhere. NDA is going to form the government at the Centre with more than 300 MPs...We are not going to join anyone else," TRS chief K Chandrashekhar Rao told reporters here before leaving for Hyderabad.

He was replying to a volley of questions on whether it was being wooed by many parties, including the Congress.

He said he had decided to support NDA as it is committed to carving out Telangana state from Andhra Pradesh.

"NDA is committed for the cause. They have included the formation of Telangana state in their election manifesto. They are serious on this issue. They have also said that they will make an announcement in this regard within 100 days of coming to power," he said.

Rao, whose party had quit the UPA in 2006 over the Telangana issue, attacked Congress, saying it "will pay a heavy price for betraying the people of Telangana" on separate statehood issue.

"They have to pay a price... heavy price for betraying the people of Telangana by not fulfilling the promise they made to us five years back," he said.
