HYDERABAD: After meeting SP chief Akhilesh Yadav in Hyderabad on Wednesday, TRS president and Telangana CM K Chandrasekhar Rao indicated that as far as federal front was concerned, all options were open, including accommodating the leading opposition party, Congress, in the grouping.

Rao insisted no one was “untouchable”. This is a shift from the original idea of forming a non-BJP and non-Congress front.

While Akhilesh evaded questions on whether his friend Rahul Gandhi was a likely partner, Rao said: “Ultimately, the driving force of our alliance will be the agenda, which we are going to propose for the betterment of the nation. Anybody can join. We don’t declare anybody as untouchable. We will keep our options open.”

“Our aim is not to make someone the prime minister. Our aim is genuinely to work for the country’s development,” said Rao, responding to a query if Congress would be approached to join the proposed alliance.

Extending support to the proposed alliance of regional parties mooted by Rao, former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav said: “Only the regional parties and regional leaders can halt the juggernaut of the BJP.”
