Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha filed their nomination papers for the June 23 by-polls to four Tripura Assembly seats.

Saha is in the fray in the by-polls from the Town Bordowali assembly constituency. Around 24 candidates filed nomination.

Saha will contest against six other candidates including Ashish Kumar Saha (Congress), Raghunath Sarkar (Forward Bloc), Sanhita Bhattacharya (Banerjee) of Trinamool Congress.

By poll would be held in Agartala, Town Bordowali, Surma and Yuvrajnagar assembly constituencies, which were lying vacant after the resignation of three BJP MLAs and death of CPI-M legislator Ramendra Chandra Debnath.

On May 15 Tripura BJP President Manik Saha was sworn-in as the 12th Chief Minister of the state. The BJP, along with ally Indigenous People's Front of Tripura routed the Left Front in Tripura in 2018. In the 60-member Tripura Assembly, the BJP won 36 seats and the IPFT eight, while the CPI-M, secured 16 seats.

Following dissension, BJP replaced Biplab Kumar Deb with Manik Saha as the chief minister. Saha is Rajya sabha MP from the state.
