Tripura Assembly Speaker Rebati Mohan Das resigns

An MLA from Tripura’s Pratapgarh assembly seat, Das joined BJP in the run up to 2018 assembly polls after quitting CPI-M.

Tripura Assembly Speaker Rebati Mohan Das resigned from his post on Thursday citing personal reasons.

Das has submitted his resignation to the Deputy Speaker Biswa Bandhu Sen.

An MLA from Tripura’s Pratapgarh assembly seat, Das joined BJP in the run up to 2018 assembly polls after quitting CPI-M.


On August 31, to quell the dissident activity in the state, the council of ministers in Tripura was expanded.

For the first time since formation of government in Tripura in 2018, BJP led government in the state in the council of ministers inducted three new faces.Three new faces -- Ram Prasad Paul, Sushanta Chowdhury, Bhagaban Chandra Das were sworn in on Tuesday.

The BJP, along with ally Indigenous People's Front of Tripura routed the Left Front in Tripura in 2018. In the 60-member Tripura Assembly, the BJP won 36 seats and the IPFT eight, while the CPI-M, secured 16 seats.
