GUWAHATI: The eight-member Trinamool Congress delegation, which is on a fact-finding mission to Bengali-dominated Silchar in Barak Valley, around 340 km southeast of Guwahati, was not allowed to leave the airport on Thursday.

The delegation has been kept under preventive detention and will stay at the airport.

The Assam police has also barred the delegation from entering Guwahati on Friday and address any gathering there without permission from the authorities.

Commissioner of Police, Guwahati Hiren Nath, has directed that no passenger carrier (both surface and air transport) should carry such persons to the area under the police commissionerate of Guwahati.

When ordered not to leave the airport premises, the delegation members had a scuffle with the police in which three police personnel were injured. Assam DGP Kuladhar Saikia said the delegation was at Silchar airport and were still deciding their future move in consultation with senior party leaders.

“They misbehaved with the police present at the airport leading to the injury of two women constables and a civil administration official,” he said.
