Trinamool surges ahead in West Bengal panchayat polls
KOLKATA: West Bengal CM MamataBanerjee congratulated the people of Bengal on Monday evening as trends show Trinamool Congress is sweeping the panchayat poll in Bengal. However, results were being declared slowly as the counting for the gram panchayat level was held first and then was the panchayatsamity, followed by the zillaparishad. For that the clear picture will emerge late at night, as the results for ZillaParishad will be declared at the last.

There is a clear indication that Trinamool Congress is sweeping the polls which was held in 17 districts and Trinamool is expected to control over 12 districts.

The Bengal CM claimed that it was the victory fo democracy and dedicated it to the people at the grass roots, as Trinamool won majority seats in the gram panchayat level. She said that the people were impressed with the functioning of the Trinamool Congress government and for that there was an overwhelming support for Trinamool in the panchayat election.

Political analysts felt that this result will help Trinamool during the 2014 Parliamentary polls.

The state government had been claiming that they had been able to provide jobs under MGNREGA which is the highest in the country.

During the 2008 panchayat polls, Trinamool Congress had managed to win two zilla parishads one in East Midnapore and the other was South 24-Parganas. Now with Trinamool in power it was obvious that Trinamool would be improving its control, but the opposition had expected better results in their favour. Though the Opposition had alleged that Trinamool was using muscle power, with central force not being deployed in many areas. Trinamool had stated that the Left Front had failed to file nominations as they failed to get candidates for the polls and thus Trinamool managed to get walk over in many seats.
