Trinamool sends ultimatum to Ratan Tata
The West Bengal Trinamool Congress has given Tata group chairman Ratan Tata seven days to withdraw his remarks about the business rivals of the Tatas fuelling the political agitation in Singur.
KOLKATA: The West Bengal Trinamool Congress has given Tata group chairman Ratan Tata seven days to withdraw his remarks about the business rivals of the Tatas fuelling the political agitation in Singur.
The party has threatened to slap a defamation suit on the Tata supremo if he does not retract his recent comments on Singur.
“We are serving a seven-day ultimatum on Mr Ratan Tata to withdraw his remarks. Else, we will file a defamation case against him. We are also considering a proposal to bring a privilege motion against Mr Tata at the West Bengal Legislative Assembly (WBLA),” opposition leader and Trinamool Congress MLA Partha Chatterjee said on Tuesday.
Another party MLA Sougata Roy on Tuesday ruled out the possibility of holding any talks with the government on Singur until “the government withdraws the prohibitory order under Section 144 CrPCr”.
“The government has extended the prohibitory order at Singur immediately after our leader Mamata Banerjee broke her fast on December 28. The decision taken by the state government has made it clear that it has no intention to create a congenial atmosphere for holding talks with our party on Singur,” Mr Roy asserted.
