Trinamool congress unlikely to take action against Mukul Roy

Roy had fallen from the grace of party supremo Mamata Banerjee following the role he played after CBI launched its probe in the saradha chit fund scam. Roy earned Mamata's wrath when he made a media statement saying that the contract between the tainted saradha group and Indian railways catering services was not signed during his tenure as the railway minister. What Roy meant to suggest was that the contract was signed when Mamata was the railway minister. Roy's comment had infuriated Mamata so much that she had removed him from all key party posts. Trinamool leadership had also indicated that the party's disciplinary committee will take up Roy's case and recommended to the leadership possible punishment for him.
But on Thursday, senior Trinamool congress leaders who preferred anonymity, said that they had no immediate plan to recommended action against Roy. This is being viewed as a major political decision Trinamool congress has taken before next year's assembly polls.
Party leadership, Mamata Banerjee in particular, was angry with Roy as he had managed to establish a good rapport with BJP's central leadership bypassing the chief minister. But now Mamata herself is in good terms with prime minister Narendra modi and there is practically no point punishing roy for the same act. In fact there are many in Trinamool congress who appreciate Roy's political foresight which is now being followed by Mamata herself.
Sources in the party also indicate that Mamata doesn't want Roy to join BJP and that's why her party has stopped taking any action against him.
