Trinamool Congress, Sharad Pawar to attend Parkash Singh Badal's swearing-in ceremony

Sources in NCP said Badal had extended an invitation to NCP supremo and agriculture minister Sharad Pawar. "Pawar is likely to attend the event," said a NCP leader.

NEW DELHI: In a development that advertises weakening of Congress, two of its allies - NCP and the Trinamool Congress - have decided to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Punjab's NDA chief minister Parkash Singh Badal. Badal had delivered a humiliating defeat to Congress in the just-concluded assembly election.

Sources in NCP said Badal had extended an invitation to NCP supremo and agriculture minister Sharad Pawar. "Pawar is likely to attend the event," said a NCP leader.

Mamata Banerjee, who was expected to be in Chandigarh, has now deputed state minister Rajpal Singh and party's Rajya Sabha MP, KD Singh, to attend the function. The NDA show will be attended by representatives of AIADMK as well.

The decision of the two parties to be part of the NDA victory show cannot but be galling for Congress as it comes a day after its spokesman publicly stated that such a move will not appreciated by his party.
