KOLKATA: The Trinamool Congress today defended the ongoing CID probe into the Burdwan blast against the BJP's charge that the government was trying to cover up the October 2 grenade explosion, saying the investigation was progressing "satisfactorily".

Trinamool Congress general secretary Mukul Roy said from Burdwan where he today addressed a party procession that the investigation was progressing satisfactorily and efficiently and claimed that West Bengal was safe in the hands of Mamata Banerjee.

"I think the police investigation is going on satisfactorily and the job is being done efficiently," Roy told PTI from Burdwan.

State BJP president Rahul Sinha told media persons here that the Union Home Ministry in its report had revealed how the state administration was being non-cooperative with central agencies and was trying to cover up the blast.

Roy speaking at the rally countered the BJP's charge that under Mamata Banerjee's rule the state had become a safe haven of terrorists, saying "people are safe in the hands of the Mamata Banerjee government".

"In the last three and a half years, law and order is being handled well by the present government. There is no law and order problem," he said.
