Trinamool Congress-Congress alliance has secured more votes in West Bengal than in 2009 general elections

The TC-Congress alliance secured 48.54% votes -- 7.12% more than the Left Front which secured 41.12%, the lowest ever in recent times.

KOLKATA: The Trinamool Congress-Congress alliance has bagged more votes in the recent Assembly polls in West Bengal than it secured in the 2009 general election and recorded a modest increase over the Left Front, which was voted out after a 34 year-long stint in power.

The TC-Congress alliance secured 48.54 per cent votes -- 7.12 per cent more than the Left Front which secured 41.12 per cent, the lowest ever in recent times.

In the 2009 parliament election the alliance had secured 44.63 per cent votes and LF had secured 43.3 per cent votes.

The overall votes polled by the TC-Congress alliance was 23085213, while the LF garnered 19555135 votes.

District wise TC-Congress fared the best in Kolkata South with 60.29 per cent, closely followed by Kolkata North with 59.60 per cent. The LF naturally performed the worst in these two areas securing just 29.85 per cent and 32.81 per cent votes respectively.

The third highest number of votes - 54.77 per cent were polled for the alliance in Hooghly.

The last on the list is Darjeeling where the alliance had 24.47 per cent vote share. Uttar Dinajpur (36.91 per cent) and Jalpaiguri (38.91 per cent) were in the previous notches.

LF fared better than TC-Congress in Coochbehar polling 45.78 per cent and in Burdwan with 45.0 8 per cent votes.

In 2006 Assembly polls, when the Left swept to power they secured 48.15 per cent and TC and Congress, though not in0 an alliance, had a share of 41.35 per cent of the total polled votes.
