Trinamool chief threatens to disrupt normalcy in WB

Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee on Friday warned her party would disrupt normalcy in West Bengal if Tata Motors was given multi-crop land at Singur for the proposed small car manufacturing unit.

KOLKATA: Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee on Friday warned her party would disrupt normalcy in West Bengal if Tata Motors was given multi-crop land at Singur for the proposed small car manufacturing unit.

Mamata was addressing projectionists of her party who had marched to Singur from Kolkata on Friday afternoon. “The Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee government is playing with fire and will burn its fingers if it insists on offering multi crop land at Singur to Tata Motors,” Mamata warned.

The four-day procession which left Kolkata on Friday and will reach Singur on Monday. Mamata will address party sympathisers there. She, however, said her party was not averse to the idea of setting up new industrial units in West Bengal.

“I am just asking the Left Front government not to acquire multi-crop land anywhere in the state for promoting industry. But at Singur, Mr Bhattacharjee’s government has acquired huge tracts of multi-crop land. Our party workers will be camping there to prevent handing over the land to the Tata Motors,” she said.

A few weeks back, Mamata had addressed a rally at Singur and asked the Tatas to quit the locality and set up their small car unit anywhere else.
