TMCP, the student’s wing, staged a protest at Gandhi statue in Kolkata on Tuesday morning against the leaks. In Delhi, MP Sudip Bandyopadhyay and other Trinamool MPs protested by holding placards.
Abhishek Banerjee took to Twitter to attack Union home minister Amit Shah, by tweeting: “Two minutes of silence for the sore losers! Despite allies like ED, CBI, NIA, I-T, ECI, BJP’s money, might and Pegasus Spying, Amit Shah couldn’t save his face in Bengal Elections 2021. Please COME Prepared with Better resources in 2024!”
“The BJP is suffering from fear psychosis. They are scared about Abhishek Banerjee and Mamata Banerjee,” Trinamool’s state general secretary Kunal Ghosh said.
Meanwhile, the CPM has also criticised the snooping episode. “This is unacceptable levels of authoritarianism employing fascistic methods. The ‘snoop, plant, arrest’ formula employed by this BJP government is a violation of the Fundamental Rights of citizens. The BJP-led central government must answer and come clean on using the Pegasus cyber software for surveillance of Indian citizens in an illegal and unauthorised manner,” the CPM said in a statement.
