Trimble Buildings rolls out tech for domestic construction industry

MUMBAI: US-based Trimble Buildings today launched a slew of technologies to strengthen India's construction industry.

"The company, along with its subsidiary Tekla, has launched technologies including a portfolio of synergistic software and hardware helping companies to digitise work-flows and minimise rework across the design-build-operate life-cycle," Trimble Buildings vice-president Bryn Fosburgh told reporters here.

The construction industry in India is getting more and more complex, but the key players in a project often aren't using tools that are set up to serve a common goal which challenges communication and collaboration across the supply chain.

"We see an excellent opportunity to help construction companies in the country and AEC (architects/ engineers/ contractors) professionals in this endeavour by bringing our state-of-the-art tools and technologies for this market at this important time," Fosburgh said.

These technologies include building information modelling (BIM), 3D modelling, virtual construction, estimating, project management and work-flow, capital program management and planning, and field and mobility solutions.

"In the US, using BIM is almost mandatory for the construction industry, which shows that the value of BIM helping the whole work-flow has been better recognised. In India we are not quite there yet. Currently, many of the projects are still 2D-based.

"At the same time complexity of construction industry is growing. The need for tools enabling open collaboration and serving a common goal is obvious," Tekla Deputy CEO and Executive Vice President Risto Raty said.
