AMRITSAR: Radical Sikh outfit Dal Khalsa today said that Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh has been reduced to non-functional chief of this supreme religio-political seat of Sikh community.

The attack came at the anniversary function of "martyrdom" of Satwant Singh and Kehar Singh, assassins of the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, observed here today.

The anniversaries of Beant Singh, Satwant Singh and Kehar Singh are observed at the Akal Takht every year with the function being organised by the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee. They had been declared martyrs by the Akal Takht.

Durbar Sahib Granthi Giani Mann Singh presented 'Siropa' to the mother and brother of Satwant Singh at a function held at Akal Takht today.

Paying tributes to both Satwant and Kehar Singh on their death anniversary, Dal Khalsa spokesperson Kanwarpal Singh said both embraced "martyrdom" to avenge the desecration of Durbar Sahib in 1984.

Jathedar Akal Takht Giani Gurbachan Singh, who was present, was not permitted to speak.
