Training lab for nuclear, chemical emergencies inaugurated

COIMBATORE: A state-of-the-art Training Laboratory to handle biological and chemical emergencies was today inaugurated at the Disaster Management wing of Central Reserve Police Force ( CRPF) here.

The Rs 4.35 crore lab will train personnel of CRPF, State Police Organisations and Disaster Management units to handle various contingencies of both natural and man-made disasters, N R K Reddy, IGP, Southern Sector CRPF, said.

As nuclear biological and chemical emergencies do not come well announced, there was the need of keeping the troops well trained and develop newer methodologies to meet any eventualities in the service to mankind, Reddy said.

The lab built on the lines of the DRDO Laboratories would be an asset to the DM wing of this unit to impart training in handling such eventualities. The wing was the nodal agency to impart training in Medical First Responder and Collapsed Structure Search and Rescue.

Later, Reddy said that based on reports about the movement of Naxals, the force was monitoring some specific places in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Kerala.

On the security aspects in the sectors in Southern states in view of the recent 'fidayeen' attack on Srinagar camp, he said "we are ready to meet any challenge."
