Traffic, parking woes haunt residents
BENGALURU: Vasanth Nagar, home to the Race-course, Bangalore Golfcourse, several five-star hotels, and the renowned Mount Carmel College (MCC), is facing serious issues of congestion.

Residents blame the construction work on first main road for most of their woes. Bhanu Prakash, a resident said: "It has been delayed by many months. First it was the rains, and now, I hear that some cables need to be laid."

When the road was closed for work, traffic was diverted to 8th Main road in the heart of the residential locality ."There is traffic congestion even on our smaller streets," said Abdul Azeez, president of Vasanth Nagar Welfare Association.

Parking by employees of commercial establishments and students of MCC has made things worse, according to SB Patil, retired Director of the Karnataka State Small Savings Scheme. He added that the lack of BMTC buses connecting Vasanth Nagar to central locations like Majestic was adding to the traffic congestion.

Manoj Kumar, a soft-skills trainer said the roads are in bad condition and many streetlights don't function in Madhavanagar, where he resides. "It has been over ten years since our roads have been asphalted," he said, adding: "Street lights which stopped functioning nine months ago have still not been fixed."
