Traders' body CAIT writes to Sonia Gandhi for smooth passage of GST in Parliament
NEW DELHI: Traders' body CAIT today urged Congress President Sonia Gandhi and other prominent political leaders to cooperate for smooth passage of the GST Bill in Parliament, terming it as "an important reform".

"The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) today sent a communication to Sonia Gandhi urging her to cooperate for smooth passage for GST in Parliament. The roadblocks for GST are giving a dismal picture of one of the most important tax reforms for the country," the group said.

It also sent similar communications to prominent leaders across party lines, including Rahul Gandhi, Sharad Yadav, Mulayam Singh Yadav, Lalu Prasad and Mayawati.

In its letter, CAIT has said GST is more of an issue connected with trade and industry rather than a political one.

It has regretted that so far no attempt has been made by the political fraternity to engage with the trade and industry on this vital topic.

"Subsuming of various central and state-level taxes in GST will simplify and rationalise tax structure and will make compliance more easy and spare stakeholders from much paperwork," the body said.
