Touts sell unique ID forms for Rs 100 in Mumbai
Bandra residents on Monday complained to the local ward officer that forms for the Unique Identification (UID) number programme are being sold for Rs 100 outside the Petit municipal school centre , near theH-W estwardoffice .
Schools have been asked to provide their premises for the purpose of registration of local residents for the UID number programme , launched by the Centre last year . The state undertook the exercise in February this year .
Anandini Thakoor , member of the H-W est Federation of Residents’ Association , said , “Locals complained that forms were being sold for Rs 100 outside the school. Those seeking forms at the school centre were told that they were available and turned away .” Rudolph Pereira , a residentof D’Monte Street ,whohad gonetotheschoolon Mondayto register for the UID number , said , “While we were turned away , a tout was selling the forms outside for Rs 100. We informed the residents’ association aboutthis ‘sale’ ,” hesaid .
Ward officer M M Kshirsagar said no forms were being sold but the agency behind the project had given them to one Joaquim . “He availed the forms saying they would be distributed to senior citizens , but did not return them . We have warned the supervisor about suchtouts,” he added .
