NEW DELHI: The first opposition on the Arvind Kejriwal government announcement that private vehicles with odd and even registration numbers will be allowed on the roads, came from Delhi police commissioner Bhim Sen Bassi who claimed that they were not consulted by Delhi government before taking a decision.

Bassi also said that it will be difficult for the cops to enforce the odd and even number car order of the State government. He said, “I am yet to see the order of Delhi government will forward the proposal to traffic department before making a comment.” The top cop though conceded that it will cause problems for the citizens of Delhi and government needs to improve public transport before passing such an order.

The commissioner who was peeved at the corruption charges levelled against him by AAP said, “Look at traffic mess, there are no scientifically design roads. I don't believe in shedding crocodile tears. They could have chucked me out, for registering FIRs and increase in crime statistics.”

Earlier Delhi government principal secretary said, "Every year pollution level increases in winter. For some time, odd and even numbered vehicles will run on alternate days. Alternate arrangements are being made to bolster public transport. DTC buses, Metro services will ply extra. We are still working out the modalities.”

The government said it hoped to cut down vehicular pollution in the state by half with the measure, which is likely to be very controversial. A joint meeting of all stakeholders including traffic police, transport department and Municipal Corporation of Delhi will be called to prepare a blueprint for swift implementation of the executive order.
