Too much of 'opposition' from Opposition, says Trinamool MP

NEW DELHI: Trinamool Congress MP Dinesh Trivedi, whose party has been strongly resisting several key reform measures like FDI, today said the Opposition is opposing "too much" and expressed disdain over it.

"Opposition is giving too much of opposition. They cannot be opposing everything. It's time to work together and find out solutions for so many poor people and that is what I personally feel," Trivedi told PTI on the sidelines of a World Leprosy Day function here.

He did not elaborate but his comments assume significance as his own party has been strongly opposing key reform measures like FDI in multi-brand retail.

Asked about the recent hike in rail passenger fares, Trivedi, a former Railway Minister, declined to comment, saying, "Why should we go into history again? Let's just leave it."

Trivedi was forced by Trinamool chief Mamata Banerjee to quit as the Railway Minister last year soon after he presented the Railway Budget proposing hike in passenger fares. He was replaced by his Trinamool colleague Mukul Roy, who rolled back the hike while replying to the debate on the Rail Budget.

Talking about the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Trivedi said it did not matter who became the Prime Minister.
