TN to witness huge investments in IT by mid 2007

With top 10 IT companies expected to make huge investments in Tamil Nadu, the state would be able to garner 25 per cent of the country's IT market by 2011, a senior official said on Tuesday.

COIMBATORE: With top 10 IT companies expected to make huge investments in Tamil Nadu, the state would be able to garner 25 per cent of the country's IT market by 2011, a senior official said on Tuesday.
"The best from Tamil Nadu is yet to come. The state has already crossed the last year's export figure (Rs 13,000 crore till now) and would achieve 30 per cent growth," IT Department Secretary C Chandramouli told reporters here.
The state government is taking steps to ensure the growth is not hindered due to lack of skilled talents as required by the industry, he said.
Chandramouli was here to participate in a seminar, Connect Coimbatore 2007, organised by CII, ELCOT and STPI for developing entrepreneurial skills to sustain the IT growth in the state.
When asked about the proposed IT Academy, Chandramouli said the IT Task force, under the chairmanship of Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, was working out the modalities.
This would be on private-public participation mode and would be run by private entrepreneurs, he said.
Earlier, addressing the conference, he said the state government is trying to introduce IT as a curriculum in educational institutions to impart training in information and communication technology, as envisaged by NASSCOM.
