TN to seek Central help to tide over power crisis

Tamil Nadu Electricity Minister Arcot N Veerasami and TNEB Chairman S Machendranathan had been instructed by Chief Minister M Karunanidhi to meet Union Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde in New Delhi in this regard.
Both of them will be leaving for New Delhi tomorrow, an official release here said. They would also meet Union Minister of State for Coal Santosh Bagrodia to press for higher allocation of power from the Neyveli Lignite Corporation thermal power units.
With lesser rain and dwinding water level in reservoirs leading to fall in hydel power generation, the state Government has imposed load shedding for 90 minutes in Chennai, three hours in suburbs and five hours in other parts.
Following this, industries in the state have started using diesel generators resulting in severe fuel shortage.
The state government has also requested the Petroleum Ministry to include diesel allocation to the state.
