TN to adopt 6th Pay Panel recommendations
In an Independence day bonanza, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi on Friday announced that the 6th Central Pay Commission recommendations would be implemented in the state.

CHENNAI : In an Independence day bonanza, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi on Friday announced that the 6th Central Pay Commission recommendations would be implemented in the state.
"We will issue orders soon for the implementation of the 6th Pay Commission recommendations," he said in his address from the ramparts of the Fort St George, after unfurling the national tri-colour.
The government's decision would benefit over 10 lakh employees. Karunanidhi said the free colour television scheme in the state would be continued. "The scheme will be continued. So far 62.80 lakh colour TV sets had already been distributed at a cost of Rs 1,517.57 crore," he added.
The Supreme Court on Wednesday had issued notices to the Tamil Nadu government and the DMK on a petition challenging the decision to distribute colour TV to people in villages as a part of the election manifesto of the party.
Karunanidhi also announced that the noon meal centre workers, now under consolidated pay, would be brought under a time scale pay from September 15, the birth centenary of DMK founder late C N Annadurai.
Independence day was celebrated all over the state with patriotic fervour. In the districts, flag was hoisted and mass feeding of poor was also organised in places of worship to mark the occasion.
