About 600 doctors would be appointed within a month in various government hospitals all over Tamil Nadu, State Health Minister K K S S R Ramachandran said on Monday.

CHENNAI: About 600 doctors would be appointed within a month in various government hospitals all over Tamil Nadu, State Health Minister K K S S R Ramachandran said on Monday.
Giving appointment orders to 450 village health nurses at a function here, Ramachandran said vacancies in the health department were not filled during the last five years, resulting in additional work burden for existing employees and quality of work. After taking over, the DMK government was filling the existing vacancies including that of doctors and other employees.
He said the newly appointed village health nurses had been promoted from anganwadi convenor posts after receiving 18 months training for village health nurse posts. They would receive time scale pay and all the benefits provided for government employees, he said.
The remaining 441 vacancies for village health nurse posts would also be filled within a few weeks, he said.
The government had allocated Rs 2.5 crore to appoint 3850 temporary workers for mosquito control,he said adding 742 health inspectors would be appointed to control and prevent diseases.
An awareness week on `clean environment for prosperous life' would be observed from October 28 to November 3, he added.
