NAMAKKAL: Tamil Nadu Minister for Animal Hunbandry, T K M Chinnaiah has said the government has allocated more than Rs 22 crore to popularise chick food and egg production in 16 districts, including Villupuram, Virudhunagar and Tuticorin.

Inaugurating a three day 31st Annual Conference of Indian Poultry Science Association at the Veterinary College and Science Institute here last evening, he said Tamil Nadu stands second in egg production and fourth in the production of chicken food.

The formation of a Poultry Research Centre in Hosur in Krishnagiri district helped provide advance information on bird flu to poultry farms in the state thereby effectively controlling the spread of the disease, he said.
