Guwahati: All India Trinamool Congress suffered another blow on Wednesday, with Rajya Sabha MP Sushmita Dev resigning from the party and the Upper House. She hails from Barak valley in Assam.

Dev met Rajya Sabha Chairman CP Radhakrishnan and submitted her resignation. "This is my personal decision and I have the right. What kind of politics I do or whether I do politics at all, that is my personal decision, and I don't need any validation from anyone... I have my own personal and political reasons to leave the party," she stated in her resignation letter.

She met Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma in New Delhi and sought his advice on her future course. A senior BJP leader who did not wish to be named said Dev is likely to join BJP.

Dev is the daughter of the late Congress stalwart Santosh Mohan Dev. She had won on a Congress ticket from Silchar Lok Sabha seat in 2014. She was president of All India Mahila Congress. She quit Congress in 2021 to join TMC.
