TMC MP Sultan Ahmed grilled for seven hours by CBI in Narada scam

KOLKATA: The CBI has begun its crackdown against Trinamool Congress leaders on allegations of bribery post the Narada sting operation. Putting the party in further discomfort, the central investigation agency has summoned Sultan Ahmed,Trinanool Congress MP. Ahmed, incidentally, is the first MP from the party to be quizzed by the agency in relation to the Narada sting operation. The former union minister Sultan Ahmed has been grilled for around seven hours by the the CBI in connection with Narada sting operation case. The other two to be questioned so far include the deputy mayor of Kolkata Munucipal Corporation and an IPS officer.

According to a senior official of the agency, Ahmed 's name was mentioned by the other witnesses, who were already interrogated by the CBI. The sources further hinted that Ahmed is likely to be called by the Enforcemet Directorate soon in connection with the money laundering case that the Directorate started with reference to Narada sting operation .

Ahmed, who had skipped some dates, arrived at the CBI office this morning. Ahmed, who is also the vice president of Trinamool Congress is allegedly accused of arranging other such meetings between Mathew Samuel of Narada and some other senior leaders of the party. According to the FIR lodged by the CBI, charges of bribery allegations were slapped against 13 senior leaders of Trinamool Congress which include at least six MPs and four ministers of Mamata Banerjee’s Cabinet. According to CBI sources, the accused persons were booked under the sections of criminal conspiracy and appropriate sections of anti-corruption act.
