TMC MP Mukul Roy to create trouble if not sent to Nandigram on March 14

KOLKATA: After his removal from all key party positions by Mamata Banerjee, Trinamool Congress MP Mukul Roy plans to create more trouble for his party supremo. Roy, currently in New Delhi, has asked some of his trusted followers to get ready for a march to Nandigram on March 14.

Trinamool Congress observes martyrs’ day every year at Nandigram on March 14 to condemn the killings of 14 persons in 2007. These people were killed in police firing and clashes at Nandigram which was opposing forcible land acquisition by the previous Left Front government.

This year Trinamool has decided to observe March 14 as “Krishak Divas” (farmers day) and party MP from Tamluk, Suvendu Adhikari, party's secretary general and education minister Partha Chatterje and urban development minister Firhad Hakim will visit Nandigram to observe Krihsak Divas. The chief minister, however, will not attend the function at Nandigram on that day.

Roy told his trusted followers here that he wanted to visit Nandigram on March 14 along with Trinamool leaders. “But if my party does not include me in the team which will be visiting Nandigram, I want to go alone to the area to pay my respects to those who were killed in police firing during the CPM regime,” Roy reportedly told his followers.

It is clear that Trinamool will not include Roy in it’s team which will visit Nandigram as it has already announced the names of it's leaders who will be visiting the area. A senior Trinamool Congress leader told ET on Wednesday that “Roy would not dare to visit Nandigram as he has no followers. It is not possible for him to visit Nandigram alone. No one will accept him at Nandigram, naturally it would not be possible for Roy to visit the area.”
