TMC MP Mahua Moitra moves SC alleging eviction from circuit house
Moitra's counsel told a bench comprising Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V Mohana that the incident took place late at night in her constituency, Krishnanagar.
Her lawyer said, "The matter requires an independent investigation. This has happened despite the high court already having passed a protective order. I am only praying for listing on an early date because this involves an important constitutional issue."

Moitra had alleged in a social media post that on the night of August 14, a large crowd gathered outside the circuit house and shouted "Jai Shri Ram" slogans after she refused to vacate the premises.
The Krishnanagar MP had also written to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla seeking his intervention over the Nadia district administration's alleged attempt to force her to leave the circuit house after she was initially allotted a room. She had threatened to approach the court over what she described as harassment.
Moitra said she had checked into the Krishnanagar circuit house for an overnight stay after a Parliament session and maintained that, as an MP, she was entitled to stay there. She alleged that district authorities pressured her to leave in the middle of the night with the intention of harassing her.
In her letter to the Lok Sabha Speaker, Moitra claimed that no one had informed her of any issue when she made the booking or told her about any booking embargo when she checked in.
She also said the circuit house, located opposite the bungalows of the district superintendent of police and the district magistrate, was meant to be a secure area “where no crowds can gather, let alone a lynch mob”.
