TMC minister blames several celebrity-turned MPs and MLAs of corruption

The Minister even claimed that party national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee and state President Subrata Bakshi have turned deaf ears to his complaints about these allegations.

June Malia, the actress-turned-MLA from West Midnapore, is among the politicians mentioned by Mahato.
Pointing out the party's alleged internal corruption, Trinamool Minister of States (MoS) in-charge of Consumer Affairs Srikanto Mahato blamed several celebrity-turned politicians MPs and MLAs, including MP Nusrat Jahan and Mimi Chakraborty Sayantika, June Malia, of corruption and earning money through illegal means.

Mahato also claimed that when celebrities are considered assets in politics, it is difficult to do politics in Bengal. He said this while addressing workers meeting in West Midnapore district, naming several celebrity turned politicians, that “they are resorting to loot”. The Minister even claimed that party national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee and state President Subrata Bakshi have turned deaf ears to his complaints about these allegations. “Have told Abhishek Banerjee and Subrata Bakshi but they did not pay any heed to it,” Mahato even commented and the video went viral. Names of several celebrity turned politicians were heard in the viral video.

Mahato has been showcaused by party leadership and submitted his apologies.


Ajit Maiti, Trinamoool Congress coordinator of West Midnapore, said, "Srikanta Mahato was showcaused and he has sent his apologies.”

Mahato, when contacted, said, “I became very emotional while speaking to the workers and said this.”

June Malia, the actress turned MLA of West Midnapore, whose name was mentioned by the MoS Mahato, said, “The party’s disciplinary committee has showcaused Mahato and he has already apologized for his behaviour.”

Kunal Ghosh, party’s state spokesperson, said, “This is an internal matter of the party.If someone differs or agrees, especially in the responsible position of MLA or minister has any opinion on it, and people must abide by party’s rules.”
