KOLKATA: Trinamool Congress leader Madan Mitra, an accused in the Saradha chit fund scam, today said he would follow the party's instructions on contesting the assembly elections in West Bengal, slated for later this year.

"The decision of my party (TMC) will be my decision," Mitra, who appeared before Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Sougata Roy Chowdhury at the Alipore Court during the day, said when asked whether he would like to contest in the upcoming Assembly elections.

On being asked whether he would want his sons to fight the assembly election for the party, the former Transport Minister said, "There is no question of them (his sons) fighting the elections ... They are already troubled with me."

He had fought on Trinamool Congress' ticket and won from Kamarhati assembly constituency in 2011 after defeating Manas Mukhopadhyay of CPI(M) by a big margin.

Mitra, who was arrested on December 12, 2014, had surrendered before the court after his bail was cancelled by Calcutta High Court on November 20.
