TMC flays Congress, describes its march a 'total failure'

KOLKATA: The ruling Trinamool Congress in West Bengal today strongly criticised the Congress march to the state secretariat Nabanna, saying the movement was a total "failure".

"The Congress march to Nabanna is a total failure. It shows people are not with them. Their workers are also entirely detached from people," TMC Secretary General Partha Chatterjee said here.

Stating that the Congress, CPI(M) and BJP in the state have come together to fight against the TMC, Chatterjee, also a senior minister in the Mamata Banerjee Cabinet, said "Congress workers have today followed the same action what was done recently by the Leftists during their similar movement."

"Congress workers have resorted to terror tactics and even burnt the barricades put up by the police," he said.

"People of Bengal are tired of witnessing bandhs and these types of agitations and movements. Nobody wants these to continue. Our Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also does not want such militant movements that could jeopardise peace and tranquillity," he said.

Congress activists today blocked the busy Esplanade crossing in the city after they were denied permission to march to Nabanna to submit a deputation on the prevalent law and order situation in the state to the government.

The Congress activists began their movement from Rani Rashmoni Avenue in the Esplanade area, but were prevented by the police to proceed further soon. They then tried to break the police barricades.
