KOLKATA: A turf war has erupted between two senior TMC leaders in Birbhum, forcing villagers to flee the area. The feud was triggered between local MLA Gadadhar Hajra and Kajal Sheikh, another leader of the party. Both factions wanted control over a village, called Bahri, in Nanoor police station area.

Villagers said a group of masked men armed with guns and bombs, who they thought were TMC supporters, attacked their village in the wee hours of Friday. A police force had to rush to the spot to when local groups clashed with the attackers.

According to police sources, four people were injured in the ensuing gunfire but there was no casualty. Police conducting raids in the village but no one was arrested, said a senior police officer.
