TMC & CPM join hands, demand rail fare hike rollback
KOLKATA: The ruling Trinamool and its archrival CPM on Monday joined hands in the state assembly, along with all other parties to pass a resolution demanding a rollback in the hike in railway fares.

Chief minister Mamata Banerjee came down heavily on the Narendra Modi government for raising the fares without consulting Parliament. All political parties, including Gorkha Janamukti Morcha, a BJP ally, joined hands to oppose the hike.

The resolution was moved by West Bengal parliamentary affairs minister Partha Chatterjee and it was unanimously passed by the House as it won the support of Congress, SUCI and all Left parties. Moving the resolution, Chatterjee said, “highest increase in rates is unprecedented.

This House strongly condemns the Union government’s decision and demands immediate withdrawal of the hike. Due to these hikes, price of essential commodities will go up and sufferings of common people will be intensified.”
