TMC candidate accuses Congress MP of violating model code

MALDA: A Trinamool Congress candidate today levelled allegations of violation of model code of conduct against Congress MP Abu Hasem Khan Chowdhury for giving monetary help to an old woman.

Khan Chowdhury, who is the South Malda MP, was campaigning for Nabin Das, the Congress candidate of ward number 20 of Englishbazar this morning for the April 25 civic poll.

He was seen giving Rs 1,000 to a poor old woman, who had come with others to listen to him.

Following this, Trinamool Congress candidate for the ward and district working President of the party Dulal Sarkar claimed that this was a violation of the model code of conduct.

When contacted, Chowdhury, a former union minister, said he had given the money with no intention to get votes.
