TMC appoints Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay as LoP, Firhad Hakim as chief whip in Bengal Assembly

The All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Saturday announced its leadership appointments for the 18th West Bengal Legislative Assembly.

According to an official party release, Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay has been appointed as the Leader of Opposition in the Assembly.

The party also named Asima Patra and Nayna Bandyopadhyay as Deputy Leaders of Opposition.


Senior TMC leader Firhad Hakim has been appointed as the Chief Whip of the party in the Assembly.

In the statement, the party congratulated the newly appointed leaders and said it hoped they would work with commitment for the interests of the people of Bengal.

The appointments come after the BJP formed the government in West Bengal following the recent Assembly elections, pushing the TMC into the opposition benches after over a decade in power.
