Timely execution of projects for 2010 games: Dikshit

With Commonwealth Games just two years away, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Tuesday said her government's priority would be to ensure timely execution of the projects related to the event.

NEW DELHI: With Commonwealth Games just two years away, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Tuesday said her government's priority would be to ensure timely execution of the projects related to the event.

At the third meeting of the Planning Board of the national Capital, she specified her government's priority for the annual plan 2008-09, with timely execution of all the projects/schemes directly or indirectly related to Commonwealth Games 2010 topping the list of agenda.

Dikshit further said construction of houses for economically weaker sections will be the next priority.

"Another thrust area for the next annual plan is to provide all essential civic amenities like roads, drains, water supply, sewerage, street lights, parks, sanitation services, health care and educational facilities in unauthorised colonies going to be regularised," she said.

Delhi Slum Development Board and a Special Purpose Vehicle for Development of Shajahanabad Heritage area are two major new initiatives of the government.

Transport will continue to be the first priority sector during the plan period followed by urban development, water supply and sanitation, education, medical & public health and energy, Dikshit added.
