Time has come to bring unsung heroes of freedom struggle through films and books: Amit Shah

Union home minister Amit Shah on Monday said that there have been attempts to forget the ideals and heroes of the country in the history books. He further added that the time has come to bring unsung heroes of freedom struggle in public discourse through films, serials, and books.

Shah was speaking at the special screening of a web series Vidrohi, based on the life of Buxi Jagabandhu Mahapatra, who became the leader of the first-ever people’s uprising against the east India Company, known as the Paika Revolt or the revolt of the peasant warriors in Odisha in 1817.

Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan was also present on the occasion.


“There is no need to change the history books. But no one can stop anyone from making a film or series or writing a book about the people who haven’t found mention in the history books,” Shah said. “Let this be part of the public discourse and the people will come to know about these heroes.”

Shah said that the history of this country has been written in a manner which suppressed the morals of our people.

“The history has been written in a manner that the years-long culture and pride should never be awakened among the people of this country. History has been written in a manner that the people of this country have to look outside for inspiration,” he said. “At some point of time we will have to give due recognition to the unsung warriors and heroes.”
